What Nano Banana puts in your images

What we found in a real file: In our test, a Nano Banana JPEG held one C2PA manifest, signed through Google's C2PA signing chain, and it carried the “trainedAlgorithmicMedia” marker. Cleaning left the pixels byte-identical.

C2PA Content Credentials

Google says images generated with Nano Banana Pro in the Gemini app, Vertex AI and Google Ads have C2PA metadata embedded. The credentials are a signed manifest stored in the file, and our Nano Banana test file contained one.

AI source marker

The manifest in our file referred to the “trainedAlgorithmicMedia” source type, the standard label for fully AI-generated media.

What this tool can’t remove

Google uses SynthID, an imperceptible watermark embedded in the content of AI-generated images, and the Gemini app can check uploaded images for it. Because it lives in the pixels and not in metadata, this tool does not remove it, and Google's own checker could still identify the image.

Nano Banana metadata questions

What metadata does Nano Banana add?

In our test file, a signed C2PA manifest. Google also uses SynthID, an invisible watermark in the image content, which is separate from metadata.

Does this remove the SynthID watermark?

No. SynthID is embedded in the image content itself, not stored as metadata. This tool only removes metadata such as Content Credentials.

Is Nano Banana the same as Gemini 2.5 Flash Image?

Nano Banana is the name Google uses for its Gemini image models, starting with Gemini 2.5 Flash Image. Newer versions such as Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2 exist. We can't tell which version made our test files, so the details above come from the files we examined.

Does the cleaned image look different?

No. The image data is copied unchanged and only the metadata block is dropped, so the file gets slightly smaller.

Is my image sent to a server?

No. Everything happens in your browser, and the cleaned copy is created on your device.
